CGWP Goes to Washington

Site directors Beth Howells and Nancy Remler and Teacher Consultant Nancy McCorkle attended the 2003 National Writing Project Spring Meeting in Washington DC. Joining them on their Congressional visits were Kathy Albertson, director of Georgia Southern Writing Project and Pat Fox, former director of Coastal Georgia Writing Project.

Nancy McCorkle, Nancy Remler, Kathy Albertson, Beth Howells, and Pat Fox visited Congressman Max Burns to thank him for his continued support of the National Writing Project. Congressman Burns enthusiastically supported our work, as did Mrs. Burns (seated).
In the Mansfield Room at the U.S. Capitol, Kathy Albertson, Beth Howells, Pat Fox, and Nancy McCorkle reviewed materials at the NWP kickoff meeting before visiting congressional representatives.

During the subway ride from Congressman Kingston's Office to the U.S. Capitol, Beth Howells and Kathy Albertson discussed preparations for the 2003 Summer Institute.

The cherry trees were in bloom during the visit to Washington. Here a young girl collects petals of a Japanese magnolia.
